Race For The Cure Update

For those who are planing to walk or run with "Bouncing Betty's Brigade" please meet at the MID GATE entrance to Summerfest on Sunday September 26th. The walk/run begins at 9:15 am from the Art Museum.

Everyone is welcome to walk with the group whether or not you are officially registered for the race or not. Individually registering will ensure a donation from you to the Breast Cancer Foundation and get you the 2010 Race For The Cure t-shirt. We have had special "Bouncing Betty" team t-shirts designed and will have a limited number of those to hand out to the walkers/runners. It is up to you if you want to officially register or simply join us for the walk/run. A donation to the Breast Cancer Foundation is appreciated if you elect not to officially register.

After the walk is complete we are planning to meet Mom at a local restaurant/bar (location TBA) for a post event get together. I know Betty is excited to see everyone and thank them personally for participating, so please stop by if you can. I will post an update once a location has been determined.

If you have questions in the meantime feel free to call or email. We are looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday, don't forget to wear pink!

The Results Are In

On Tuesday Mom met with her doctor to go over her CT scan results. As hoped the results were good, all tumors, including the lesions on her liver are shrinking. When the cancer was first diagnosed the tumors were measured in the centimeters, today their size is down to millimeters. Some so tiny a biopsy, if needed, could not be performed because they are too small to pinpoint. The good news is certainly encouraging. At least now we know that all the aches and pains these last few months were not in vain, the treatment is working. Treatment continues though and if there is one thing cancer has taught us, its that you never know what to expect next.

Speaking of aches and pains, one constant discomfort Mom has dealt with is numbness in her feet and fingertips, a common side effect of her Taxol treatment. Luckily the doctor was able to prescribe some medication to alleviate this sensation. Down the road they may even schedule some physical therapy to help address the issue. For the moment though, the drugs are helping and that is a relief.

What's Up Doc?

On Tuesday August 31st Mom met with her oncologist, Dr. Sailaja Kamaraju for a check up. Both the meeting and check up went well, Dr. Kamaraju can no longer feel any lumps in Mom's lymph nodes (armpit) and again noticed progress in the size and feel of the lump in her breast. She also stressed that at this stage of the treatment it is very important to surround yourself with encouraging people and feedback. So please send all your happy thoughts and positive energy moms way. The Doc can address her physical ailments but it is up to all of us to help keep her spirits up.

Next week Wednesday, September 8th, prior to her regularly scheduled treatment, Mom will have a CT scan. The CT scan results will tell us what progress the chemotherapy has made on the liver. This will be a very important test result so please pray for good news.

What Cancer Cannot Do

Taxol day, please keep mom in your thoughts and prayers these coming days.

Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.
